Summer Mantle

I am so behind on my posting that I am just getting around to
showing you my Summer mantle!  You may remember when
I did a post about visiting the charming town of Smithfield, Va.?
I found this great architectural piece at one of the many antique
shops in town.  It was love at first sight!  I knew the piece was
just what I needed for over the mantel.  It was in excellent
condition,  just really dirty.  I spent hours cleaning all the little
crevices with Q-tips.

Seashells were added to the mantle, including my new blue coral.   One of  my
hand dyed sea fans was also added to the vignette

Remember This Frame?

Hi everyone.
Do you remember this frame I showed you recently?

I added two intaglios to the frame.

I am still making reproduction intaglios from antique molds and selling them
on Ebay and Etsy.

Last week while out antiquing I found three authentic 19th century intaglios.
They are in fabulous condition and you can still see some of the writing on
the back. These will be  listed on Ebay next week,  but if anyone is interested
in them just shoot me an email.

Our oldest son and his family from Orlando will be visiting next week.  We
plan on spending lots of time at the pool, cooking out and doing activities
to keep the grand kids happy.  You'll find me in the yard helping build a
fairy garden and dinosaur park, making cupcakes, cookies and watching
Beauty and the Beast for the fiftieth time.

Being a grandmother is the best!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Hugs,
Sherry

Auction Purchase & Open House Spring Break

I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to
a fun weekend.

The Open House party will be going on Spring break for a
few weeks.   I'll still be posting and visiting you, the party will
just be on a short hiatus.  I need a little breather and the time
to catch up on reading my favorite blogs, returning emails and
finishing some long overdue projects.  I'll be returning soon with
more beautiful homes to share and a fabulous giveaway!
.................

A couple of weeks ago I went to an auction liquidating the
inventory of a very expensive home decor shop.  I was the high bidder
on two beautiful Italian pottery pieces.  They still had the original price
of $395.00 each on them!  You all know I am  rather very frugal and
there was no way I would pay anywhere near that amount.
I filled one of the urns with seashells and a white sea fan from my Etsy
shop.  I know it is hard to tell in the photo but this piece is huge and weighs
a ton.  I can barely lift it even when empty.

The other urn is currently sitting empty awaiting some pretty plants.  We are
headed to the nursery tomorrow so I'll be back soon to show you the other urn.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hugs,
Sherry

Decorating With Seashells

When Summer approaches I love to pull out my shell collection and start decorating.  I found this metal bucket at a garage sale for $1.00 and knew immediately what I would use it for.  The bucket had a
shiny white finish and a few scratches so I gave it a coat of leftover white paint. On Microsoft Word I found a font I liked and printed out the word Seashells and then copied it to the bucket using carbon paper. The shell stencil is one I have had for years.

Since I already had all the paint and supplies this quick and easy project cost me just $1.00!

The shell canvas was created for me by Easy Canvas Prints  from a free graphic
found at the Graphics Fairy.

Of course I had to add a couple more pictures of seashells and my vintage glass fishing floats.

Most of my shells have been bought at garage sales, junk shops or just picked up for free at the beach.  The shell above was my latest garage sale purchase at fifty cents and the glass floats were $1.00 each.

I hope to see you back here for the Summer Blog Party starting Wednesday evening.  I will be hosting Summer Entertaining so get those tablescapes, recipes and fun entertaining ideas ready to link up.

There will also be a giveaway for this fabulous French Script Pillow donated by Gathered Comforts.

Don't forget to join the other ladies this week for some great Summer ideas and giveaways and please stop by At The Picket Fence  and thank Vanessa and Heather for all their hard work puttng this party together.

I'll be partying this week with all the ladies above.

xoxo,
Sherry

Dressing Up For Summer

I wanted to make some changes in our family room and bring in some summer decor. This gorgeous canvas art piece from  Easy Canvas Prints was just what I was looking for.  I have always loved this vintage shell print from the The Graphics Fairy  so when Megan of Easy Canvas Prints offered me a free canvas I knew immediately what print I wanted to use.

Putting this print on canvas was no easy job because of the odd size and me wanting to keep the printed text on the top and bottom.  Megan worked wonders and achieved just the look I wanted. The photos don't come close to showing you how vibrant the colors are.  Thank you  Easy Canvas Prints for this wonderful
gift!  Please take a moment and visit their site by clicking on my sidebar.  They can create a family portrait on canvas or just use your imagination and they can make it.

The urn is freshly painted and I added a glaze and a combination of brown and red paint to create the rust spots.  My hubby says the shell bottle I made looks like an alien from the side!
Added a couple of antique architectural pieces.

The Italian vases were a gift from my husband several years ago and they are still
one of my favorite things.

I love the canvas with the transferware and urn of shells.  It definitely feels brighter and lighter in the family room.  Now I am working on the mantel. This is always a challenge because the mantel piece is so narrow that it is impossible to layer things. It always feels to me like a row of little soldiers all lines up.

I recently won a $50.00 gift certificate to  Every Patio Furniture  from Stacy at Red Door Home.  The other giveaways I have won have all been more for me.  My hubby is excited this time to pick out some new grill accessories for him.  I am such a fan of Stacy and her blog.   If you are not familiar with Red Door Home you must stop by but be prepared to drool. Thank you Stacy!

There is still time to link to the Open House Party.  I hope to see you there.
