Play Ball

A day my sweet baby has dreamt of for three years has finally come – opening day of his very first baseball season!  He took his time on the field more seriously than anything he’s ever done in his precious four years on earth.  He listened, tried his hardest and had a whole lot of fun.

It was the little moments like these that made my heart swell and my eyes fill.  The child has awaited this moment since the day he could lift a bat.  And to see him there on the field with his daddy showing him the ropes was just incredible.  After six seasons of watching brother from the bleachers, our little Whit finally had his much deserved day in the sun!

His best friend from school is on the team and one of my very bff’s little one is as well.  It is so sweet to see these little friendships budding.

Later in the day, we headed back to the field for the PCP’s game.  It was the first one I made it to since the beginning of their season was postponed due to weather and then I was in Savannah after that.  There are first, second and third graders on his team so he was thrilled to get to spend a little time at third base.

John and his bestie O – they don’t go to school together and some days I think he only plays baseball to get to see this kid :-)

Both boys are on the Rockies teams in their respective leagues and I CANNOT wait to snap a pic of them together next weekend!!  With three games a week plus practices between the two of them, y’all know where to find me this spring…

The Storm Season

The PCP just finished up his first season in the first through third grade baseball league.  He played hard, learned a lot and, most importantly, HAD FUN!

As always, we couldn’t have been more grateful to have Coach S leading the troops again this season.  Outside of Honey, Ampa and his two uncles, Coach S is the most important male role model in his life.  He looks up to him, admires him and respects him.  There’s no doubting the great opportunity that coaches have to shape our children!

With that, I’m going to luxuriate in the much needed respite from three days (and countless hours) a week worth of baseball.  Oh wait, scratch that…basketball games start next week.

Game Ball

The PCP was just thrilled to leave yesterday’s game with the game ball.

And while I’d never tell him this, (I mean, what good is a mother if she’s not the kid’s biggest fan?!?)  I knew it wasn’t the best game he’d played all season.  So later that afternoon when he said “Coach S didn’t give me the game ball because I played the best.  He gave it to me because my attitude was the best” I couldn’t have been more proud.  It was a tough game and a hard loss but he’s right…he DID have a great attitude through and through.  It’s moments like that when I think maybe, just maybe, we’re doing something right :-)

Storm Snack

Fall ball is underway and we’ve already scratched our snack duty off the list!  Since our assigned game time fell between meals, I put together Storm Snack bags for the team.  Everything was red and black to go along with our colors.

The PCP is super excited to be playing the next league up this season.  He’s one of the youngest on the field but is already learning so much from the big third graders!  We are so thankful to be on Coach S’s team again this year.  He’s really been moving them around on the field a lot so John’s already had the chance to play at pitcher and catcher (his Daddy’s position through high school at college.)

We’ve won one and we’ve lost one but the PCP has had a splendid time no matter the outcome.  As we say around these parts, “if you had fun you won!”

The Walking Dead

…is about how I feel right now.  We had so much fun this weekend that I’m surprised I’m still awake to tell you about it.

We had baseball games Friday and Saturday.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game...

I grew up playing and loving sports. My siblings and I played just about everything, but we always had a special love for basketball and baseball. Both my parents played basketball and my dad was a basketball coach, and then I met and fell in love with Jon so my life will probably continue to revolve around basketball until the day I die. My mom's family has strong baseball ties and we grew up excited about trips to the ballpark and eating hot dogs, cotton candy and ice cream that was served in an upside down plastic baseball hat. There's just something about a warm summer evening that brings back memories of sitting in the stands at a ballpark as the sun set, with my glove on my hand, listening for the crack of the bat and waiting with anticipation for a foul ball to come my way...(and yes, Jon makes great fun of me for the fact that I used to bring my glove to every game... -haha!)

While we were in New Hamsphire this summer, we were headed to a baby shower for one of my cousins over in Vermont and drove by an old baseball field. I immediately fell in love with the old dugouts against the cornfields. The setting was so serene and looked so untouched by time. I found out later my dad used to play on this field when he was younger. A couple weeks later I met my cousin Cathy and her husband, Jason out there with their five little ones and we let them run around and play and I took some photos.

The setting was so beautiful!

I love Abby's expression in this one!

I wanted to get Lola and Benjamin in the pictures too but Lola was NOT cooperating.

She sure did have fun giving poor Auntie Jamie a run for her money though! We couldn't even contain her long enough to tame her crazy hair. =)

Time to pick up and head home for the night...

I hope you all have a beautiful evening!
