Easter Eve

The PCP has been sick with a fever the last two days so Honey took care of him at home while Cookie and I joined the rest of the family at the club for breakfast and egg hunting this beautiful (and finally spring-like) Saturday!

After a spur of the moment hibachi lunch and the baby’s baseball game, we managed to get the PCP off the sofa for just long enough to dye some eggs.  He’s looked forward to this for weeks now, bless his heart.

We spent the rest of the evening lounging on the porch and enjoying a lively adult only supper while the PCP slept and the little ones watched a Mickey Mouse Easter special on tv.

Tucker Gowan Memorial Scholarship

I’m taking a wee break today from decorating, crafting and child rearing to share the story of a great undertaking by a great friend for a great cause.  Our dear, dear friend Todd is celebrating his 10th cancer free year this year.  He is truly one of the most remarkable men that Honey and I have ever had the great fortune of knowing; the kind of person that gives selflessly and effortlessly and inspires good in all that he touches.

Over the last year, Todd, myself and countless others followed Tucker Gowan, a family friend to Todd, as he bravely battled cancer.  Tucker beat the disease but tragically lost his life to other complications.

In recognition of this hallmark year for Todd, he is not only running a half marathon in Tucker’s honor, but he is raising money for an annual scholarship in Tucker's name.  The goal is to recognize one Pomperaug High School student each year, for the next twenty years, who embodies the spirit and overall zest for life that Tucker exemplified each and every day.

You can read much more about Tucker’s legacy and Todd’s story, and give to the cause here

I offer a heartfelt thank you to all that take the time to read, share and repost on your own blogs and Facebook pages.

The Valentine’s Dance

The PCP was a complete doll to be my date the club’s annual Young at Heart Valentine's Dance.

When I came down the stairs, he presented me with a sweet pink corsage, thoughtfully chosen with a little help from his Daddy.

We dined, danced and talked.  He opened the doors and used the very best manners, and I couldn’t have been prouder to have him on my arm.  He taught me Gangem Style and I taught him the Macarena.  I conned him into a few slow dances and he got me to play Simon Says.  You know, we were pretty much a match made in heaven :-)

And, at the end of the night, I got a very proper kiss on my cheek as we were recounting the night’s events to Honey.

When I thanked John for one of the best dates of my life, he replied “You’re welcome, Mommy.  But it wasn’t a REAL date.  It was more like a scrimmage date.”

I totally get what he means in his seven year old way of saying it.  And perhaps it was a “practice” date for him, but I assure you it was very real for me.  In fact, I look forward to many, many more “scrimmages” before sending him off for “real”  :-)

Bee Bop the Night Away

We bee bopped the night away at the PCP’s school sock hop!  Mother helped me throw this ensemble together at the eleventh hour, repurposing my Mickey costume from a few years back, and I headed out with my favorite greasers.

Seeing as candy cigs are so hard to come by these days, we substituted conversation hearts in the littles’ shirt sleeves.  I love that when told to “act like you’re from the 1950’s” the littles’ simultaneously and instantaneously struck this strange pose.  Apparently the PCP thinks the men of that era were quite grumpy. (And Honey too based on his mug above.)

Up at the school we dined on The Varsity, sipped on Coke floats and danced, hula hooped and limboed the night away.

Handed Down

Y’all cannot imagine how absolutely thrilled I was when Honey’s mama (affectionately known as JuJu) handed down this vintage patchwork Lilly Pulitzer apron handmade by her late mother many moons ago.  It is in pristine condition and the love and care that went into making it is evident.

I truly couldn’t love it more and it makes me want to do a little happy dance every time I tie it on.  I had the great fortune of knowing Honey’s grandma for a few years and adore having something so fun and so ME to remember her by.  I imagine she never dreamt that her youngest grandson’s wife would be wearing it one day…

Man Day 2013

Soooo… you know how Valentine’s Day is essentially a day for the girls?  Well, around these parts we took a page from our bff-the-w’s page and celebrate “Man Day” on Super Bowl Sunday.  While I wrangle the littles, Honey sleeps in, gets breakfast in bed, dines on a lunch of his choice (which always without a doubt consists of Taco Bell), and then hangs with his cronies to watch the game.  I only managed to snap one pic of the festivities…

Tomorrow things shall be back to normal…I’ll make his breakfast, he’ll eat out for lunch and I’ll watch the littles all day.  WAIT… so how exactly is “man day” different from any other day?!?!  :-)

Honey is still watching the game, the littles have been asleep for well over an hour, the house is all cleaned up and I’m about to snuggle in bed and watch the night’s episode of Downton Abbey.  If I didn’t know better I’d say it must be “woman’s day”!!

Resurfacing

After spending much of the last week at home sick, we resurfaced for a Sunday fun-day!  One of the baby’s besties celebrated his birthday Avengers style, and sweet friend Angie Reuter did a darling job, as always, making everything super special.  She painted the board behind the beverage station with one of the birthday boy’s signature quotes and plans to hang it over his bed – how cute is that?!?!

We jetted home to change into our Falcons gear and then headed out to cheer on our home-town team.  It was a heart breaker in the last few minutes, but that certainly didn’t detract from the fun (at least not from my fun seeing as I don’t really celebrate football.)  Bestie A had an amazing spread – I can’t recall what she called it other than it was "like a Spanish big mac" and it was DIVINE… she even made her own pickles, for cryin' out loud.  And the salted caramel chocolate chip cookies were like little bites of heaven.  I think I’ve talked her in to starting a food blog so look for lots more yummy goodness to come on that front!!  (This is the same gal whose mama is Mary Pratt.)

Sweet baby CeeCee is home now and I’ve got my fingers crossed that we’ll be able to pop in and snuggle her for a while tomorrow!!!  Mother gave all of her grands Feltman gowns for their homecoming but this is the very first one that’s been embroidered in PINK!!

I am beyond thrilled that Honey is on holiday tomorrow.  I have loads of plans to sleep late and lounge the day away until we go visit the aforementioned little doll…

Musings

Y’all were so so sweet to leave Honey all those comments yesterday.  He’s quite a catch :-)  Someone asked for a picture of his Christmas beard and, unfortunately (?), he broke a long standing tradition when he shaved it early this year for a holiday party.  The really interesting thing is that it was not a costume type event…

Have you seen the train wreck that is Dance Moms?  As much as I don’t want to watch it, on the rare occasion I come across it while flipping channels I just can’t seem to turn it off.  Okay, who am I kidding?  I do sometimes every so often seek it out :-)

I am thankful for every.single.minute that I have with this little one at home.  He fills my days with so much joy, laughter and silliness.

Lest you think the baby is always tromping around in darling outfits, I thought I should set things straight and share how he looks most days.  I never had trouble dolling the PCP up in smocks and appliques, but this little one has a mind of his own and an (unfortunate) penchant for jerseys and strange socks.

So excited to have found this blog dedicated to reviewing Trader Joe’s wine – Trader Joe’s Wine Compendium.  Although it doesn’t seem to have been updated in a good long while.

And speaking of wine, this is my new favorite red.  It’s $12 at my Publix but less that $8 at my local wine store.  Thanks blonde AW for making our introduction…Apothic Red: The brambly spice of Zinfandel, dark fruit flavors of Syrah, the bold notes of Cabernet Sauvignon and the smooth elegance of Merlot unite to create this captivating red blend.  Apothic Red reveals intense fruit aromas and flavors of rhubarb and black cherry, complemented by hints of mocha, chocolate, brown spice and vanilla. The plush, velvety mouthfeel and the smooth finish round out this intriguing, full-bodied red blend.

I’ve also been loving the What Kate Wore blog.  You know, because it satiates my obsession with all things princess and fashionable.

And while I’m on the subject of princesses, take a gander at my half-baby.  I’m just a little obsessed with sweet CeeCee and am counting down the minutes till I can get my hands on her again.  And don’t you just adore the hat??!!  Sister found it on etsy.

The littles helped me make these pancake bites earlier in the week.  We followed the instructions in the actual blog post, not in the Pinterest write up and found that it only made six little muffins.  Aside from that snafu, we used what we had on hand (blueberries, bananas & nuts, strawberries and chocolate chips) and the littles adored them.
We have a fun filled weekend of basketball, birthday parties and Falcons cheering ahead.  And the chore of finishing the cleaning and organizing of  this wretched closet.  Yes, I realize that the fact that I wrote “finishing” is surprising because from the looks of it you thought I hadn’t even started.  This is part of my "evaluate" resolution…
