Mad Slime Scientist

The PCP got a slime scientist kit for his birthday and we finally got around to pulling it out.  After months of staring at it on the playroom shelf, we had the best time concocting all sorts of different slimes over the cold, wet weekend!

Poof-Slinky Sci-Fi Slime

Proto-Plasmic slime that looks alive, Thermo-Chromic slime that changes colors at the touch and Atomic slime that glows in the dark all received rave reviews from our resident mad scientist.

And who knew that slime was perishable?!?!  I never ever in a million years could have dreamt I’d have bags of slime next to the greek yogurt.  For that matter, I never dreamt I’d be the mother of boys or that I’d actually look forward to greek yogurt with fresh fruit and honey for breakfast (you know, as opposed to things like Krispy Kremes and day old pizza).

The littles have dentist appointments after lunch and swimming lessons this afternoon.  There's not much I despise more than an hour and a half in that hot, steamy, chlorinated cave...the baby nearly drowned in his lesson last week so here's to hoping things go a tad smoother this go round.

Inspiration No. 6, 2013 - Neon Love, Easter Ideas, Interiors & More

Hi everyone, after a few weeks of loving pastel and stumbling across these pretty neon, glittered eggs from Tori Jayne, I started to look around for some more neon inspiration. I'm not particularly a fan of neon, however, I am only one opinion and it does have its place even in interiors. I have found some free printable gift wrap, interior, DIY Easter ideas and a recipe I thought fitting as neon...

Quick links to recipes, craft instructions and image sources can be found at the end of this post.

Savannah: DIY Door Decor from Screens

When on our Tuesday shopping spree, Mother and I fell in love with the door decor at Matty’s ($45) and set out yesterday to make our own!
photo 1 (40)

We made three – for both of us and Sister – and are beyond thrilled with how they turned out!!  (Note, this was before we touched up paint over the staples.)

They are made of screening material and should be very durable in the elements.  It was certainly a trial-and-error effort, but here’s the gist of how we did it.

You’ll need:
- Roll of screening material – use the one pictured below – we learned the hard way
- scissors
- latex paint and brushes
- stapler
- ring clip or pipe cleaner for hanging

Here’s how:
1. Use chalk to draw out your pattern.  You will need two pieces for each finished piece.  One should be about an inch larger all the way around – that will be the top piece and allow for it to puff up a little once assembled.

2. Cut out your two pieces and paint front and back of each piece.

3. Add decorative accents to top piece (larger one) once the base color is dry.

4. Lay the two pieces on top of each other.  You will staple together where the edges of both pieces meet – this will allow the top piece to puff up a little.  Staple once at the top, once at the bottom and then once on each side to start.  Then fill in staples in this same manner until it is fully connected.

5. Cut two small slits near the top of the back of the bottom screen and insert your ring clip for hanging.

6. Touch up the staples with the base paint color.

7. Admire your handy work!! (This was before we touched up the paint on the staples – we couldn’t wait to see what it would look like!)

We’ve already started on our Easter screens!!!

On the yummy side of things this weeks discoveries, include, Banana Gelato  icecream, pastel swirl cake and a simple Rice Krispie recipe,  I've also found some pretty pastel interiors. Plenty to peruse, so take your time to browse through. You will find "quick links" to instructions and recipes, at the end of this post.

We hope you had a lovely weekend, we had the prettiest blue sky today, not a cloud to be seen. I spent the morning walking round the bays but not actually entering the "Round the Bays" run. I returned home and had a big clean out of my studio and a bit of a re-shuffle. Poppy is paddling around waiting for her dinner so I better get this post published quickly before she starts to get annoyed with me ☺

Remembering Disney {2012 Edition} + Etsy

The littles were beyond excited when a box full of pictures from our December Disney trip arrived on our front stoop over Christmas break.  We spent almost a whole morning snuggled on the sofa pouring through them, choosing just the right ones for each section of our memory books and then pasting them in.  It’s hard to believe that was well over a month ago – we’re already itching to go back!!

There is a section in the book for each park and for all of the special events we attended.

We included the Messages from Mickey that they received in their stockings each morning and other special things like the confetti they collected at the Fantasyland Grand Opening.

And of course, there is the coveted signatures collection from all of their favorite characters.  I hope they never outgrow that :-)

This year I also included lined pages for the PCP to jot down his favorite memory from each park and event.  Since we were missing a week of school for the trip his teacher asked that he write about his trip each day and this was a great way to capture his thoughts.  In the baby’s book I just transcribed what he said were his favorite memories.January 2013 046 copy

Like last year’s books, these have already been poured through many, many times!!

I sure hope next time is sooner rather than later :-)

After a few inquiries, I have added a completed and a DIY printable version of these books to my etsy shop.

Last but not least, I’d like to take a minute to thank my top referrers – all of which are fabulous blogs written by amazing and inspirational ladies.

When I started on this blogging adventure I didn't have an inkling as to all the wonderful people I'd have the great fortune to "meet".  Many thanks to each and every one of you that take time out of your day to spend a few minutes in mine.  With that, I think I’m going to sign off from the virtual world for a few days to soak up time with Honey and the boys.

I’ll see y’all in 2013!!
