Today I want you to meet 2 of my favorite Belgian artists!

I was introduced to their sculptures, at Belgian lifestyle, interior design and garden shows, where both artists had a booth.

 

MARTINE BOSSUYT

Martine’s figurative and non figurative statues and sculptors in terra cotta and in bronze are known in Belgium and abroad, because Martine is often attending to national and international exhibitions.

I have always loved Martine’s sculptures since I was introduced to her work a few years ago. The statues and sculptures express a strong ‘need to interaction’ with the spectator and are inviting us to descend into our own silence.

 

Martine Bossuyt about her work:

‘Often I am searching without knowing to what. Only at the moment of finding, you can say more about it, but because it almost never happens, you stay there circling around. That's life for me. Even in my work I experience that constant search. All things surrounding me, keep me busy, even the age-old question about what could be my relationship to it. I see something, I am surprised, I absorb it and feel the need to express it again into another form. I want to place a reality in another context, a more visible one. This is only possible by adding something: words in poetry, colours on canvas, sculptures in clay.’   (Dutch text on the website of Martine, translated by me)

Martine’s work ‘Versteende kwetsbaarheid’ (1999) proves, among other, that she is a very socially engaged woman. ‘Versteende kwetsbaarheid’ (english translation: petrified vulnerability) is the title, she gave to her life work : a group of 1000 terracotta statues. The integral revenue went to KOESTER, a children’s cancer foundation in Ghent.

RONNY PAESBRUGGHE

His love for animals, mainly horses, grew into a passion and is now the essence of his sculptures. Ronny’s passion became his profession.

Ronny models in wax and clay. His sculptures are all ‘animals in motion’.

The artist, who is a horseman and a horse driver in heart and soul, is giving shape his emotions into the most wonderful statues in terracotta and bronze.

In response to a blogpost titled ‘Belgian Musings’ by Vitania of the Verdisgris Vie blog , that was posted earlier this week, I received again a few emails from my readers asking me to tell something more about the painting, that was shown on one of the pictures on the Verdisgris Vie blogpost .

As I received emails not only this week but also during the passed years asking me to tell some more about the painting, I decided to write a post about the artist of these amusing dog portraits.

Thierry Poncelet is a Belgian artist, born in Brussels, now residing in Monaco. At a young age, his grandmother, who was also a portrait-painter, encouraged him to paint and draw. After studying Fine Arts at the St Luc Academy, he joined workshops to learn the art of painting in a traditional way and restoring fine paintings.

One day, as he was working on an aristocratic portrait,tired and bored by the ugly face of the Lady, he had the idea to replace her face by his own dog’s face! The first ‘aristochien’ was born!

I do love the idea that Thierry had to search for 18th and 19th century portraits at flea markets and attics and to give them a new life. Forgotten family portraits were given a new ‘dog identity’ and became famous aristochiens.

Mr Poncelet has become a succesful artist and his paintings are sought throughout the world. His unique paintings have been exhibited at many leading galleries.

What a surprise!!!

 

I was so surprised, but oh so pleased when my friend Céline, of the French blog Céline Chollet Aquarelles, emailed me that she had a surprise for me and that I had to visit her blog to discover what the surprise was!

Céline had to make some aquarels for a new exhibition in the Musée d'Art Naïf de Noyers-sur-Serein (http://www.noyers-et-tourisme.com) and she decided to make an aquarel of my orangery because the warm color palette and the sober character of the Belgian interiors inspired her, she told on her blog.

Can you imagine how surprised I was landing at her blogpage and discovering this most beautiful aquarel of my orangery?!!

 

Can you believe Céline realised her aquarel using only a few pictures of my orangery of which I posted some pictures once?!

Here you see  some of the pictures Céline had filed on her computer.

And this is the finished aquarel of our orangery!!! Isn’t it amazing??!! I just love it!!

What a surprise!!!

Meet our Belgian artist Jan De Vliegher

A few weeks ago, friends of mine introduced me to the contemporary Belgian painter Jan De Vliegher, by showing me one of the publications about his work, titled ‘Treasury’. I really was impressed by all these gorgeous works of art.

I hadn’t seen paintings of Jan before, so I started googling his name and discovered more about this talented Belgian painter and his wonderful work.

Jan has a beautiful website where a lot of his paintings are to discover.

I emailed Jan asking him if he would allow me to introduce him and his work to the readers of my blog. I was so pleased with his prompt and kind reply giving me his approval!!

Jan De Vliegher is born in Bruges (°1964) and lives and works in Bruges. Since 2003 he is a teacher drawing and painting at the Stedelijke Academie of Bruges.

Jan graduated at the Sint-Lucas Higher Institute for Visual Arts of Ghent (1982-1986) and obtained his
masterdegree in painting (magna cum laude).

He already exhibited in various national as international art galleries (list of exhibitions click here).

Jan’s preference is given to the figurative painting, This allows him to express his love for colouring and poetry of painting, in a more or less free style.

Jan is not adhered to the narrative or the story but he is seeking for universal situations. Ordinary things and events in their own environment are captured on a photo and brought onto a painterly image.

Composition is of much more importance than content.

The artist loves to use a bright and strong color palette to give his paintings a dynamic and expressive character. He brings his paintings to life by playing with light and color.The emotional impact of a work is of a huge importance to the painter.

Jan De Vliegher creates visual beauty of which the essence is vitality and energy.

 

Jan is painting architecture, interiors, people, nature and still lifes.
