Last I wrote in this blog I was planning on moving to Chicago and pursuing an MA in teaching. Since then a lot has happened, a lot that I didn't expect to happen. So now I am living in DC and I have decided to put grad school on hold. That is still something that I plan on doing one day, just not now. So this is how it happened...
The last event of my summer was an old friends wedding. I was excited to see a lot of friends that I had grown up with, but thought it would only be that. Little did I know that I would connect on a deeper level with all of those people and even one in particular.
It was one of the best weddings that I have been to. A nice emotional ceremony, lots of laughter, talk of the 'old days' with friends, good food, good conversation, and quality people. When I lived in Korea I felt like I was not getting this kind of thing. I need good people with depth in my life and a year spent in Korea was a year lacking in that type of depth. So to have all of this at one time in one place was amazing.
I spent the rest of the weekend having a good time with these friends and it got me thinking. I realized that all of those people lived close by, between Harrisonburg and DC. Then one friend in particular pointed out the obvious to me. He asked why I don't just move to DC. It occurred to me at that moment that moving to Chicago would be a huge mistake. I wouldn't be surrounded by all of these good people who have known me for years, and I would have to start all over again like in Korea.
It also occurred to me that this old friend and I were clicking in a way that we had never clicked before. I have known him since we were 12 and he had always seemed like a brother. We've kept in touch off and on throughout the years and always had a good time with each other, but not like this. This was different, but it was good, new and exciting.
So I moved to DC! I am currently looking for a job and living with my good friend Cathy. I have been enjoying my life here so far. My old "friend" and I have also decided to pursue a relationship and see what happens. It is all so new and exciting for me and definitely different from my original plans, but I am happy. Life throws us these crazy curve balls and if we don't go with them, then we miss out.
I am excited to see what the future has to hold with my budding life in DC. :)
