Tragic But True Easter

I am taking you back to the late 1950's when I was a child growing up in Florida. My dad took me to our local feed store to buy a  Easter chick..

Oh no, not just any Easter chick.

I chose a pretty pale pink chick!

Keep in mind this was the late 1950's. Florida even allowed the sale of baby gators back then. That's a story for another time. Back to the chicks...Most states have banned the injecting dye into the eggs just before Easter so that the chicks were born rather colorful.  In my research it appears that a few states and still allow this practice and it appears to be common in other countries. The dye is non-toxic and the color disappears within a couple of weeks.  As an adult I am not advocating dying chicken ...but as a child it was fascinating.

I so loved that little chick and carried it everywhere with me in a cardboard box. If you have ever raised chickens you know they do not stay small chicks for very long! I agreed to take little chick to live on my grandparents farm since she was getting so big.

Several days before our trip to the farm mom and I went shopping. I left little chick in her box and sat it on the bathroom floor.  When we returned from shopping I ran into the house to retrieve chick and to my dismay.....she was floating in the toilet.  I was one devastated five year old!

Years later I married a man that owned a chicken farm.  Yes, 40,000 little chicks were delivered to the farm every few months.  That marriage didn't work out, maybe because subconsciously it wasn't the man I wanted but my little lost chick.

wondering

i have been thinking lately about what i want to do.......are all the readings and findings and searching for something leading me to some place? i feel like i am in a maze, going this way and that, turning, backing up, remembering......"oh, yes, that's it", finding, laughing, crying......what am i supposed to do? i know i am with each step finding the way to creating the life i have dreampt about, but it is so time consuming......taking away from living.

what is it that we are all looking for? where are we? what is next?

Make Up Gone Wrong

I picked up this little statue the other day on one of my GW shopping trips.

Even though she didn't look very pretty on the outside, I could see her potential.

..

Doesn't it make you wonder why?

Again with the spray paint and a little glazing...

Doesn't she look prettier with her make over?

Casual Dinner At The Beach

Okay you got me!  I am really not at the beach...a girl can dream!  I had to show off my recent wins.  I won this fabulous sand pail from Low Tide High Style, and isn't it just the cutest thing?  I also won these adorable place card bubbles from Maureen at Inglenook Decor. These glass bubbles have a hole to hold flowers and a slot for the place card or pictures. I think this is the greatest idea!  I have never won anything in my life and now I get two wins in one week. Thank you both for these wonderful giveaways.

Sorry about the poor quality of this picture. but I had to show you a photo of me diving with the stingrays

My table is set for a casual dinner with a beach theme. My new sand pail is holding a beautiful piece of white coral and the tall glass vase is filled with water and a sea fan. The water magnifies the sea fan and floating candles are also placed in the vase. I have used an antique ships lantern, telescope and large glass float to set the beach mood.

I absolutely adore these wood charges from Pier One. Hubby bought me these for my recent birthday.  The dishes are from JC Penneys Chris Madden collection.  I love them because they are so versatile and can be mixed with so many of my other dish collections.

I am linking up with  Marty at  A Stroll Thru Life  for Table Top Tuesday.

A B&B in my neighbourhood

If you ever plan to visit me in Belgium, then please read this post about a beautiful Bred & Breakfast in my neighbourhood, about 15min. drive from my home. I am sure you will love to stay there!

The beautiful B&B “Le Pavé” is located in the region of The Flemish Ardennes, surrounded by a picturesque décor with its shelving skyline and typical cobbled streets. So the region is very famous for the Belgian cycle-racing and in particular for the ‘Tour of Flanders’.

Peter and Angelique’s farm lies in the middle of the ‘Tour of Flanders’ route. The spirit of the cycle-racing is subtly present in their B&B. Peter Van Petegem (the owner) was a famous Belgian cycle-racer.

The name “Le Pavé” refers to the victory of Peter in the Paris-Roubaix  tour in 2003. Le Pavé (French word that means street stone) alludes to the cobble stones that are omnipresent in the Flemish Ardennes.

Hard Part's Over...Let the Fun Begin

I'm done!!!!!!

I am done with all of the painting and all wallpaper is outta my house.  I wish you could see my face and know how happy I am.  I am also exhausted.

Now is the fun part, though.  I have all of my accessories, pictures, etc., ready to be put into place.  But, you know what...I am too tired to do it.  So,  I am going to bed early and am going to work on it tomorrow when I am refreshed.

This is where it will all sit until tomorrow...

Look What $5 Got Me

My sweet friends, I have to show you one of my favorite purchases from GW to date.

This find will go above a piece of furniture in my newly (in the process of being) painted dining room.   It is old, kind of hard to see into, but I love it and it is just what I needed.

And, she was $9.99 with a yellow tag.  Yep, the yellow tags were 50% off that day.  Hooray for me, I got her for $5.00.

Can you tell I was excited with this find?

I assume this mirror was on a dresser at some point in her life.

But, that day she sat all alone, waiting for me to bring her to my home and giver her a little lovin...

I have to get back to painting now.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello and tell you all to have a blessed day.
